I’ve said before that I think people who believe Pakistan to be a Musharraf away from Islamic theocracy to be wildly overconcerned, considering that the main conflict in Pakistan is between secular conservatives and secular moderates. This story serves as further evidence for my view.

A year ago, Colin Farrell gave a homeless man he had met previously $2000 worth of clothes and first and last month’s rent on a place to live, and told him about addiction support therapy and what it could do for him. (Farrell met the man when he helped him win a radio contest years previous – the radio station offered money to anybody who brought them Colin Farrell, so Farrell found said homeless man and brought him to the station.)

Today, that man is clean and sober and a valued member of his church community.

So, go Colin Farrell!

I know my posts at The Court aren’t generally of mass importance to my readership, but this one is different. Recently, a collection of Christian activist groups, led by the abominable Charles McVety, petitioned the Canadian Judicial Council for the removal of Chief Justice Beverly McLachlin, based on her participation in the Order of Canada Advisory Council’s nomination of Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada.

What’s important is that their letter is little more than a pack of lies.

I’m serious, folks: spread this one around if you can. This is little more than an attempt by Canada’s religious right wing to create the “judicial activism” controversy out of nothing.

I’ve written about Kathy “Five Feet Of Fuckup” Shaidle’s idiocy before on this site, but this really takes the cake.

Now, I am not particularly a big fanboy of Jason Cherniak – he often comes across as painfully self-important, to say the least. But I’m not so stupid and crazy as to, say, publicly disparage his professional abilities as a lawyer. Cherniak has decided to sue her for libel, and given the circumstances and Canadian libel law he should probably win.

(Remember, being a right-wing blogger means free speech should never ever be constrained, even where that speech has criminal intent!)
