I really loved Infinity Inc. for the art — Ordway just entering his prime period — but I remember waiting, month after month, for Northwind to do something interesting. I suppose I’m still waiting.

Anyone look at this and think, “DC made their own lamer version of the Falcon?”

You know, I love comic book logic, and it’s goofy naming conventions.

I willfully embrace it — to a certain extent you can’t be a fan if you don’t.

And yet…

The first thing that popped into my head when I read the guy’s origin:

Feithera? Feitheran? Oh, come on.”

A fast-moving glacier? Really?

And he’s black? That’s like making a black Aqualad.

I like the mask… important to ensure nobody knows which of the one human-Feitheran hybrids in existence is the superhero. Mask helps to disguise the red skin and feather hair and nine inch feathered crest as well.

Hey! He could talk to birds, and had a raygun that could make people dizzy. Then Alex Ross got hold of him ….

“Anyone look at this and think, “DC made their own lamer version of the Falcon?””

I did!

I’d also like to say that you were too nice to this lameass, MGK. Sorry. 13% is about 6% more than he deserves.

Yeah, honestly, he only deserves a rating that high if he really is a Koko B. Ware knock-off.

I was thinking that 13% is about 15% more than he deserves.

Of all the characters for DC to copy… The Falcon? Specifically pre-Brubaker Falcon? Really???

MGK: Your post has a bit of a false premise. ROY THOMAS NEGOTIATES WITH NO MAN!

What about BLAQUALAD?

Off topic, but MGK, did you see this: http://www.aintitcool.com/node/44779? So, now that you’re (going to be) officially a lawyer, how about you go write and direct a Doctor Strange movie?

BLAQUALAD!

Say it again!

ReplyReply

Well, when you put it like that it does sound kind of stupid.

I would read the hell out of Blaqualad, but I’m afraid his arch-nemesis Caucasian Manta Boy might be a bit of a pill.

ReplyReply

No, no, no, Blaqualad’s nemesis is The M.A.N.ta. Always keepin’ him down.

okay, uh, the head directly below Northwind’s hips
WHATS WRONG WITH HIS FAAACE

What I’ve never understood is how “communicate with” somehow always equates to “makes them his bitch”. I can communicate with community college students, but that doesn’t mean I can even make them understand how doors work. And birds (or fishes, if we’re talking about Blaqualad) aren’t THAT much smarter than community college students

So you’re saying Northwind is 13% as awesome as Rex? It DOES seem a little high of a rating…

Soylent: That’s probably his mom, so you should say that too loud.

“And he’s black?”

I know. Who would have guessed that Hawkman was friends with a black person?

Black people are weird. I didn’t know they could fly.

Feithera is actually from a Golden Age Hawkman story, so the whole “city of bird-people” idea wasn’t created just to give him an origin.

Also, the face below his hips is actually Hawkman’s original mask.

“Why would one kid have wings and the other kid doesn’t have wings? Come on.” Recessive genes?

Northwind is the product of someone’s internet fetish, if they’d taken the time to imagine their theoretical kid. So he’s always made me feel kind of queasy just to look at him.

This is Roy f’in Thomas, kids. Of COURSE Feithera is from a Golden Age story. Northwind was probably one of the first characters he came up with for Infinity Inc, not one of the last.

I want the next comic I buy to be…

BLAQUALAD’S BAADAASSSSS SONG

…in which BLAQUALAD dispenses his funky brand of tectonic-plate justice on the jive seahorses of the M.A.N.ta with the help of his sexy army of all-elopidae ninja killers!

Is that his mom & dad to his left? If that’s his mom, why is she wearing a veil over the lower part of her face?

Was she de-beaked?

Jon H: Yes, that’s his parents, and his mother does have a beak, the veil hides it.

RobotKeaton: Bottom-center picture is Golden Age Hawkman’s original mask, with upper and lower hawk beak and a TONGUE. o.O;
