There was recently a debate on mixed-member parliamentary representation versus our current first-past-the-post system here in Toronto, and I covered it. Those not familiar with Canadian politics may not get all of the gags, but oh well.

This week: “Sucks To Be You” by Prozzak, which is probably the best joke “band” ever invented. Two members of the Philosopher Kings, a couple of cartoon fronts, and stealing Europop dancehall traditions two years after the fact and tossing them into a blender with over-the-top emo lyrics: equation for total kitsch coolness.

Hey, Diane Finley! First off, let me just say that you totally rock those tinted glasses and that having Graves’ Disease must suck. Mad props to you, D-Fin. Now, as to the meat of this missive: Sweden is making us look bad. I know, I know, it’s already a bit of an uphill battle what […]

Variety is reporting that Eli Roth, director of such fine films as Hostel and Cabin Fever and Kill Killy McKillerson, has signed on to direct an episode of Heroes. (Which is not particularly news, but we are on newsmagazine time in […]

This week: “Incarnate,” a great song by the Watchmen. (No, not those Watchmen, the ones who aren’t the comic book Watchmen.)

I saw Persepolis a few weeks ago at a press screening for the Toronto International Film Festival, and last night I watched Superman/Doomsday. And really, there are no two works as spiritually akin as these two are: Marjane’s struggle against patriarchal fundamentalism is, dare I say it, exactly like Superman’s struggle against a giant killer […]

After my law school classes today, I went to four separate comic stores downtown looking for a copy of Dr. Thirteen: Architecture and Morality. Sold out. Everywhere. I even called a couple other stores and they, too, were sold out. One store got ten copies (which, for a trade paperback featuring a… no, not D-list, […]
