Akira made me think I liked anime when it came out. I went out and bought Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Wicked City, Ghost in the Shell, and a bunch of other stuff back in high school. Then I found out that most anime wasn’t like that stuff at all. It’s mostly like Tenchi Muyo, Digimon, and Rouroni Kenshin. Which makes me sad inside.
I think Akira was part of a crafty plot to make sweet-natured, trusting, gullible Americans buy a bunch of crap with big googly eyes all over, Karellan. Don’t feel bad. You’re not the only one.

It was “The Ghost in the Shell” that did it for me.
Then I realized anime was just Sailor Moon.
Ranma was at least entertaining.
