“Trend predictor” who predicted the 1987 stock market crash, the Asian currency crisis and the subprime mortgage crisis predicts “food riots and tax revolts” by 2012.
(Of course, it is also worth pointing out that lots of other people predicted these things too. And for someone so notoriously good at predicting trends, why doesn’t he have at least a Wikipedia entry…?)

He’s one of Ron Paul’s chief economic advisors, too!

Considering the amount of survivalists there (“leave your guns and gold ready!”), Ron Paul/ Peter Schiff Mises-type* freemarketeers fundamentalists (ovelaped with “teh Bush socialists and multicultural freeloaders r bringing teh NWO of the foreigners!”) doesn’t really give me much, well, anything.
* Weird that Friedman was dropped after Reagan, Clinton and Bush, huh? Why is it only Mises and Rand people insist on keep sucking on to?
Quite frankly, seeing the amount of these people on Digg and elsewhere is a bit baffling. To see people yelling about fascism (and mixing it with socialism in that strange vein of ignorant anxieties about “intelectual criticisms -> anti-americanism -> foreign -> enemies -> socialists -> ungrateful welfare hispanoblacks -> femislamofascism” etc) while yearning for the good old authoritarian aggressive days when people worked hard for the glory and good of the nation etc. It’s all very straight white male entitlement, no? Complaining about the liberals (for being liberals, not for the 80% of the time they’re republican light) while understating the damage done by Bush-like figures.
It’s strange to see these weird overlaps of Alex Jones territory, Lou Dobbs, Ron Paul, Friedman, Glenn Beck, Mises, Rand, ex-Greenspans, Schiffs, the not so insane socially-liberal-fiscally-conservative folks (90’s type of republicans and the libertarian sort of priveleged selfish streak that ultimately votes republican, since abortion-made-illegal and all other repressive repub-conservative streaks
sorry, the last bit was supposed to go:
“(90’s type of republicans and the libertarian sort of priveleged selfish streak that ultimately votes republican, since abortion-made-illegal and all other repressive repub-conservative streaks is not so important as ‘financially conservative’ tax cuts)”.
The comments section under that article were…to put it lightly…nauseating. I mean, I hadn’t seen that much full tilt retard outside of Freeper territory.
I really really hope he is wrong if only to watch those people’s heads explode.

You’re not kidding. Urgh.
The end of retail Christmas? Thank fucking Christ.
I see that the article lists like five things that this guy predicted. Why doesn’t it list the dozens (hell, probably hundreds) of things he got wrong?

One of my beefs with libertarianism in a nutshell.
Veghead- further, you should check out when he predicted this stuff. For the subprime crisis and the crash of the dollar (which seems to be rebounding fairly nicely, at least compared to everything but the Yen), he made those bold, prescient statements… in the summer of 2007. It’s kinda easy to “predict” that the dollar is going to fall and the housing market is going to set off a crisis when it’s already starting. At best, you can give him credit for not saying, “I’m sure it’ll totally get better in, like, a month”, but that’s about it. Mostly, I think he’s smart enough to predict that there’ll always be a market for people who claim to be able to see the future. Especially when people are scared, and especially when the fortune-teller says that things are gonna be baaaaaaad.

One of my biggest beefs is how they call everything THEIR priveleged ass (with no sense of historical perspective) don’t need at the moment as “entitlement programs”. Makes me want to frame the entire guns ownership issue as “entitlement amendements” (not because I believe it to be, but “fuck gay marriage, abortions and healthcare and give me my guns so I can shoot on the weekends in the name of right to bear arms for freedom revolutions” is Teh Welfare For Hobbies!!!).
